artistry in nature

I am awed by the beauty of these standing dead giants. Although past, they support much life, their limbs full of birds and insects who in turn owe some of their lives to the old cottonwoods. Although strong looking, the ground is littered with fallen giants and I walk carefully around them respecting their eventual fall-to-earth by the power of the wind.

Even the dead have their place. We have numerous dead trees in the little stand of trees behind our house. Woodpeckers find a nice source of food therein. Other animals and insects find that these trees make great accommodations!
